In chassidic sects where traditional fur hats known as streimels and spudicks are worn, the traditional fedora or Black Hat worn by non-chassidic sects is referred to as a Bend Down Hat. May also be used for racial profiling and spotting non-chassidim in shul.
Often referred to simply as a 'Down Hat' as opposed to the Chassidic 'Up Hat.'
We should make clear that the brim of the 'Up Hat' goes up all the way around. The brim of the 'Down Hat' goes down in the front. Neither of these terms refer to hats with a brim that goes down all the way around. Those are only worn by hopelessly lost BTs and out of towners.
